Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Skips Dad is a great crayfish imitation that catches everything. Easy to tie and fun to fish.

I posted a tying video in the video section of this site too.

Pattern
Hook – 2xl to 3xl regular or heavy wire. Mustad CS53 size 8 shown.
Thread – Brown 6/0, 140 denier
Tail – The butts of the pheasant tail fibers that form the shell back
Body – Thickly dubbed brown or brownish-olive rabbit, squirrel or blended dubbing
Shellback – Pheasant tail fibers
Claws – Pheasant tail fibers
Weight – Lead eyes, unpainted.

Good Luck!

This is a very nice looking fly I think I will try this one soon.
Jeff-

I like this pattern because it is very easy to tie (and it catches fish!) Make sure to watch the video, Joe Cornwall from www.flyfishohio.com is a great!

The more I tie, the more I like the simple patterns. Some of this stuff gets out of hand with crazy materials. This one is just right.

nice looking,i also agree the simpler the better.has anyone tried to move the lead eye under the eye of the hook? i am a hopeless tinkerer.
The lead eyes by the bend works well. The crayfish lies on the bottom and stays pretty flat. The hook has a bend to it that curves upward.

I thought the same about the lead eyes, but it seems to work better with the weight by the hook bend.
