Do you love big bluegill?
Hello, my name is Harry A. Lamey in Biloxi, Ms. and would like to join the Fl Panhandle Bream Busters. We are not that far away from each other and looks like we share the same type of fishing. I fish for bluegill only with a fly rod and am a avid…Continue

Wishing you all well, and signing off from up dates. Life has landed me in AZ... PLENTY monster red ears... but not in Aguila AZ. Nothing but cactus, but I have my rods and boxes!!!! Wouldn't DREAM of hitting the road without them. Haven't been on site in MANY MOONS, but I know what AZ can offer. Headed to collect as soon as possible. All I require is enough gold on my mining claim to pay for a fishing license, and time off from working on a HOG FARM. Honest work, and my soul smiles at baby pigs, but GODDAM it stinks! Sumbich. Sheet. Enough flies to feed a BIG TANK full of fish, and I'm seeking a federal grant to pay for it. WHY T.F. not?
Hi Clint. Believe it or not I went squirrel hunting this morning. It was a spur of the moment thing so the area was not scouted out. Went down to the river swamp where I hunted as a teen ager. Didn't see a critter but there was a war all around me since today was opening the season. At least the trip got me a little excited again about hunting.
After the war stopped about 0730 and the woods became silent we decided to look for some bream. Had a few cricket and worm. Got a couple, one small shellcracker and one bream. Both are faded out in color as is usual this time of year. The water temp was 60.3.
i have never fished ocheesee but have heard of some good fishin there. have also heard of people getting lost there too.sounds like the drought has hit it also
Hi Clint, gave up hunting years ago. year. Here is a report I posted yesterday
Got a late start so did not get to Ocheesee until 8am. Only boat there.. Fished 3 hours and called it quits. Not a single bite. Used earth worms, crickets, and tiny spinners..
The pond is about 8 to 12 ft in the areas I ran in the main lake. Back in the cypress there is a million good looking spots, but there is a good bit of hydrilla and another kind of grass that really wraps around the prop. No place for a bass boat with big motor. except in the main lake and fishing the cypress around the edges.
There is a line of markers back into the cypress but the path plays out a few hundred yards in from the main lake. This is an ideal spot for a yak angler. A small boat with weedless prop to get around would be a plus. Electric motor is ok but you have to run it shallow and avoid obvious grass areas on top of water. Even with that you get a good bit of weed. I sure would like to fish it with someone who knows the ropes, especially when the water gets back up a couple of feet. . Back in the cypress I was fishing only 2 ft deep with worms and crickets to avoid the underwater grass. Water is VERY clear so used rods to cast bait away from the boat
I did a lot of looking back in the cypress but with one eye in the back of my head to see where I had come from. Didn’t get lost but that could easily happen very quickly if you forgot to pay attention where you were lost your sense of direction. I’m not good with my gps, and actually didn’t realize the pond was on the map. Discovered this after I left the swamp and was playing around with the gps out in the main open pond. I will feel much more comfortable next trip.
On the north shore of the main pond there was a very noticeable water line on the cypress. Looks like the lake is 3 to 4 ft low. The boat ramp is almost out of water but there is a good solid bottom of rocks that have been hauled in. No trouble launching. It appears there is a sand bottom in many places around the lake that is not covered with grass.
Pulled out about 11 and stopped at the hwy 90 ramp in Caryville. River is low but looked pretty good. 2 rigs parked there. Decided to go down to Comanders. Got there about 1pm and fished until 3:30. One 4 inch bream on earthworm. Another boat was launching when I got there. Guy said he caught 19 bream last Saturday and 9 last Sunday. All small but they ate good he said. There is no access into any of the lakes off the river. Even Bruce and Sandy Creeks are nearly dry at their mouth. Sam Story, Endless, etc. …..forget it.
Drove about 200 miles all together. The take was one 4 inch bream. Gas at Pilot in Marianna was 3.27 although sign on I-10 said 3.35.
Going to rest a couple of days and get back out their next week and see if I can find some specks and reds. Last two mullet trips were a bust. I guess the Alabama snatchers have caught them all…………….

over to Ocheesee..........
hunting season is about here im getting geared up for that. Would like to get in on some good crappie fishin. if anybody hears of any post it. Thanks again clint
Hi Tim, thanks for the report. That's the first decent report I have seen in weeks realted to crappie and gills. I went out yesterday afternoon for bream. First time in months. It simply has not been worth the time or expense fishing the river. Fished about 3 1/2 hours and caught 6, only 4 keepers. The river has been high and still is and lot of stained water and trash. However, we got back in a clear water lake but the water was not moving.
My buddy and I prefer bream fishing most of the time but I think yesterday cured us for a while or at least until we start getting some good reports from others.
Speckled trout and reds are starting up a bit in the Choctawhatchee River Delta area, so going back to that for the time being.
I will be in Tallahassee on Oct 22 for a meeting ont the RESTORE Act and will bring my boat and stay for a few days with my sister. Have been wanting to do some fishing over there for a long time.
Hi guys,
With the fair amount of high water we have had on and off for past several week I'm hoping bream fishing will start to pick up with the cooler weather. However, recent reports have been rather spotty and poor. In the next couple of weeks I plan to be after them on the Choctawhatchee.
To pick up the slack I have been after mullet. Finally got the hang of it and have bee making some good cacthes. Neighbors and friends have been well supplied for past couple of months.
Roe season is upon us so the mullet limit has been reduced to 50 per boat , 9/1 - 12/31. That's still a lot of fish to dispose of. Most I've caught is 44 for 2 anglers, and that's a lot of fish. Many of the bigger ones are 2 pounds plus but mos run about 3/4 to 1 1/2 lb.
One of my fishing partners caught a carp acouple of weeks ago while mullet fishing. Didn't have my camera or scale but he was a big one, about 20 pounds. He was released although I have read they are good to eat.
I notice the water temp was 74/75 on Monday when I was down at Alaqua Creek mullet fishing. Weather was beautiful. Water still warm enough for some possible bream fly fishing. I'll give ti a try next week.
If any of you are out there let us knwo how the conditions are and about any catches.
Take care.
Thanks for the info Tim, i will have to give that a try next time i go.
Hey J.B. hope your daughter is better now. let me know how your next mullet trip goes
