Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I did a search, but couldn't find any ice fly patterns. Does anyone care to share? I know regular trout flies will work, but I like trying new patterns.

Thanks,

Bruce

hey bruce u could try a spider with a split shot added to ur line to make it sink

'm thinking the term "ice fly" doesn't really describe a fly in the traditional sense, i.e., feathers and fur etc. They are more like little weighted heads, in all colors and shapes. I was confused by this, at one point, thinking I might try some 'ice flies' during warm months.

There are tied ice flies also.....Actually, I have resisted using ice flies up till now, because of the feather/fur aspect....now, I have seen the flies that David speaks of, and they are on my shopping list for this season!

These are  what I'm talking about, in size 16 and 18...purported to be just the ticket on finicky gills.

Ah, "rubber band" flies, I call 'em!

You know my mantra where BG are concerned: Go basic, and go small! winking

I didnt know it was your mantra - but its a dandy when it comes to lepomii

How does one make these? Rubber band and colored nail polish?

tony do u tie these ur self

I wish I did James, but if I have any creative talents at all, they are probably better suited to a large scale endeavor.

We are fortunate to have many extremely talented thread spinners here at BBG, but I can not count myself among their ranks by any stretch of the imagination.

Sorry!
