Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

What size and style of hooks do you recommend for bluegill poppers? I've been looking at the 33903 Mustad kinked shank hooks.

33903's are great and are my personal favorite.  I always buy the size 6 and 8 in the 100 pack. (JannsNetcraft).  Other kink shank hooks are fine if somewhat less affordable. I also use the eagle claw gold aberdeen 6 and 8, also mustad 3366.  there is no rule but if you use the non kink shank hooks a little more effort is required in the thread wrap and gluing process to keep the hook from turning in the popper body.  Some even go as far as tying a piece of heavy mono the length of the body on top of the hook to compensate.  there are a few popper vids on youtube.

The Mustad 33903 kink shank hooks very work well, on foam bodys especialy. Hook and popper body size is determind by the size fish your targeting. Small bream a size 10 with a 1/4 inch wide or smaller body, larger bream a size 8 with a 1/4 - 3/16 wide body, Monster Bream and Bass a size 6 but then your really limiting the size of bream.  Whatever hook you use make sure it's long enough that the hook point is well behind the body of the popper, that really helps your hook up ratio.

Here's a youtube video on building one of my favorite foam poppers,  I think this is part one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4hkZX-RUE8
