Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Anyone fish for Bluegills on or around river wing dams? If so, when do you start targeting gills on these features? I assume some gills pull out of the backwater and slough areas as the temperatures increase and 1st spawn comes to an end - but at what point do you say, "I'm hitting the wing dams for 'gills today?"

sounds very interesting ... but i personally don't have wing dam conditions near me... bluegills around me in the reservoirs i fish avoid current like the plague.

The front and backside scours or voids are current free...hugging to the top of the wingdam is a slip zone that is low current yet high access to food for all fish. I've caught gills incidentally while fishing wingdams before but this year I'd like to target them specifically. Wing dam fishing is fun - there's a chance to catch any species of fish available in the river
