Hi Everyone,
Just wondering what everyones favorite lure to use to catch bluegills is. I would have to say my personal favorite is gitzit lil tough guys with a piece of worm or something on it and a float the bluegills and panfish hit pretty good on them.
Let me know what your favorite lure is
Thanks

The popeye is normally a crappie jig but I have caught some nice gills on it here in Percy Priest. Seemed to work best in the early spring with a slow retrieve.
I have been having very good luck with hot pink Gulp maggots.
one of my best gill flys:

My go to color is gold when it comes to bluegills! I use a 5mm fiska 2 red maggots. This lure works great in deep water as well. The extra weight the tungsten offers gets your bait down to the suspended fish as quickly as possible. You may want to make sure you retie a little more often though cause they are a little spendy.
I must say that you contributors are revealling some nice examples or lures to use for picking up bluegills. But I have found that if that little guy is in the mood, well he'll hit just about anything. I've caught some nice gills on plain ole white bread, rolled into little dough balls, useing a bobber and light tackle. But my favorite lure is just about any shrimp imitating lure. Of course you can't beat a cricket....but you did say lures.
Here are a couple that I like and ty

this one does the trick most of the time:

My favorite lure for Bluegill in a tiny spoon made by Dardevle called a "Skeeter" in the "frog" green color. Comes with a small double hook that needs to be sharpened. I use this on 2 lb line and it is just dynamite during the spring and summer months! Make as long a casts as you can (use a long rod helps) and use a steady slow retrieve. Most fish just have to try and kill this lure!

A picture is worth a thousand words!
tried and true, never met a gill that did not like them.
I have an answer to that question! ITS TO DANG COLD! Crickets wont work in the cold of cold. Its got to be in the 50s for these jokers not to sleep on you. When its in the 50s you still gotta keepem in the sun to keep them awake. If its any colder than mid fiftys your gonna have your hands full. They belly up in the bottom of the cage. NOT DEAD! DO NOT DISPOSE. Just put them in the sun and they will wake up when they warm up a lil bit. Its better to just use a jig unless you can let these buggers swim at there full potential.
I fish them dead or alive, as long as they'll stay on the hook. Have used them many times below 50 deg. Even troll them and it doesn't matter. When I lived in Ind. I used to think waxies were the best bluegill bait, but after 20 years in Florida and now 3 in Tenn, I'm convinced that crickets are by far the best bluegill bait I have ever used. I do want to try some micro-spoons with Berkley waxies or spikes this year. I usually shift gears to gill fishing a few weeks after the crappie spawn, by then they are thick around the marina and really hungry after the long winter. There are so many under my boat sometimes that my whole sonar screen nearly goes black with fish. They follow the channel to the marina like a super highway.
