Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

hello all!  this is my first post, i'm brad from north alabama.  after finding this shhhwweeet site and reading all i can i've come across a question i wonder if you could answer for me.  i recently ordered some micro spoons and am excited about spoon fishing for gills.  i've been waxin em here on the tennesee river lately and i want to keep the bite going most of the summer.  i even found some big gills in the dead of winter around here and they were exactly where you good folks said they'd be in the winter.......just so happened i found the fish first!

so here it is.     can you kindly "rank" or give me a first choice kinda scenerio for which spoons yall like?  i see lots of folks mentioning the kastmasters and swedish spoons and i'm looking for some direction for my next order for my "gill box".

thanx all so much!   and mr bill.....congrads on the article!!!!!!   i've been looking for it locally and have yet to find it, i look foward to reading your input!!

Brad, the Swedish pimple and Kastmaster should be part of your arsenal.....1/10-1/5 oz Swedes, and1/16-1/8 oz Kastmasters.....use the rigging defined in my blog Deep water spoon rigging.

These 2 spoon types are great starters, and will put a good share of fish in the boat, or on the bank.

The spawn is just finishing here in northern Illinois, and many gills are headed down the drop-off. Look for numbers of suspending fish hanging just off the deep break, out from the weed edge and in close proximity to deep water.

All of the specifics in the article are also in the blog.....experiment with other spoon types, and rig them with single hooks.....be patient when implementing this approach....it will catch fish if they are present.

Countdown the presentation to determine depth of suspending fish...if you find that other local anglers are rubber-necking your presentation while your releasing the giants, keep chucking the spoon to frustrate them....

When the fish head for really deep water, tie on a 1/4 oz Swede rigged with a #6 eagle claw L210 hook....skewer on a few wax worms and cast it out far and deep....30 plus is not uncommon, probe deep flats for isolated rock and gravel areas that attract giant gills.

Please join the Spoon chuckers, and let us know the level of your success!

thank you my kind sir!!!!!!!!  i ended up getting some 1/8 blue foxes tonight on overstock.  and i think one of my local bait guys carries kastmasters in his store.  next stop will be the swedes.

i'll certainly let you know how i do.  thur morning will be my next trip but it'll be a cricket bite due to the lack of spoons at my disposal at present.

thank you again, i look foward to joining spoon chuckers!
