Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Here's a quick question or two for all of you serious 'gill fisherman out there:

What rod action do you prefer when fishing for bluegills? ... Fast? ... Moderate?

Does your preference change depending on depth fished or presentation type?

Just curious ...

Tight lines and screaming drags to you all!

I'll tell you everybody may have different preferences that's why they sell so many different kinds of rods. Since I have been using ultalight that's what I like to use not saying I don't use light action because there is a place for them also. I personally like 5 to 6 ft rods. I like a rod that bends at the tip not so much at the bottom 2/3rds of the rod. so I guess I like a little backbone on my rods. I use 2 to 6 lb test line. If I'm casting and retrieving (small jigs-spinners) I really like the 5 ft. If I'm trolling or drifting maybe with a bobber I like the 6 ft rods. If I'm fishing deep water with a jig or live bait that when I'll go to the light action rod with 6 lb test line. Having that little bit more backbone  in the deeper water helps with to hook sets. That's still only part of the equation. There is a good smooth running ultralight spinning reel  with a good drag. Then of coarse there is what really ties everything together the fishing line. You don't want to skimp on the line personally I like the fluorocarbon lines, they are tough and invisible under the water. That's what I use and been successful with. Hope this may help you some.

I use an ultra lite rod from ugly stick with 4lb test line, and my set up is a slip-bobber and depending where I'm at I fish around 6'-7' deep...
