Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

So, I've been eyeing those fancy, wooden framed trout nets, with the softer, fine mesh netting. They seem like they would be much easier (less abrasive) on Sunnies which I end up releasing.

Only thing I'm worried about, is that I have seen the spines of certain fish... {Carp, and maybe a few others ?} which are actually barbed, and tend to get stuck in fine mesh netting, causing much damage to both the fishes fins / spines, as well as the net !

Is this ever a problem with Sunfish in the softer mesh trout nets ??? Or can I go on and spend $20 on one ?

Thanks,

Fish

I have one and don't see any problems with fish getting caught in the netting. My problem with it concerns its length. Being primarily a Trout net means it was designed to be used while wading, when the angler's arms are a lot closer to the water. It can be a pain to reach the fish in some situations, and I usually find myself using a bigger, longer handled net.

Thank you Tony.

Fortunately, my boat is pretty low to the water, not to mention the fact that instead of having big, in the way, benches across the middle of the boat, it instead, has a padded bench down both sides, making it really easy to drop down on one knee, and get right down to the water for landing fish :) Love my boat ;)

Great ! Another thing to spend money on !  ;) LOL

Peace,

Fish
