Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have a 3.5 acre pond, have great population of BG and right now a seemingly good distribution by age classes. I catch some really outstanding big BGs even throwing out a shrimp for catfish. I see fry , 2 in-4 in fish by the scad.

My bass population was wiped out by a disease, virus, or fungus. Matters not, they are gone. I have restocked with 400 4 inch LMB. But in the meantime, before that population can grow and spawn, I have basically a BG pond with some Channel Cats.

The question is, how does one monitor the status of the BG, keep from over population...or better yet in a pond this big, is that a honest worry?, and now that I have really big BGs, what should I do to ensure the BG are big?

I stand by for a crowd of experts to dive on this one..

I refer you to the pondboss.com forums, where there are literally hundreds of discussions on this very subject. I often read that site, wishing for the day I have my own pond.
