Do you love big bluegill?

What's Lake Perris like this time of year? Thinking of taking the motorhome up with one or more of the kids for some camping and fishing. Is this too early for a good BG bite?
Is there decent shore fishing at the campground area, or should I rent a boat? Towing my minivan up and driving around the lake to shore fish is also an option
