Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I was getting some of my fishing gear ready for an outing tomorrow and my favorite ultra-light rod always reminds me of a trip last spring in which I thought my favorite rod was lost.  My youngest son was fishing with it and we were catching some huge crappie off of a friend's pier.  He had just re-baited and laid the rod down to get a snack.  I had just told him to be sure to hang onto it, when it shot off the end of the pier and sunk out of sight into the dark water.  After several failed attempts to snag it, I had come to accept my sweet ultra light rig was gone for good.  We caught several more fish and were getting things together to leave when my oldest son's cork went under and he set the hook. In comes his hook with another line attached.  He hand lines it in and up comes my lost rod.  He then reels in all the slack line  when the rod bends and drag starts to zing.  We all grinned as I dip net the catfish that weighted in just a few ounces over 8lbs.  Of course the debate was...Who caught the fish?  We chalked it up to dumb luck.  Please share some of your "dumb luck" stories.
