Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

If you could only use one bait for the rest of your life what would it be?

Wanted to get some responses back on this.... If you had to throw everything out but one what would it be.  Strictly for bluegills and also just assume that you could have unlimited number of that bait but only one bait/type/size/color forever.

CRICKETS, CRICKETS, AND MORE CRICKETS ! , on a fly rod, with a porcupine quill ! enough said, like using a net on them.

Hi i'd like to see that set up.Sleepy

Maggots, hands down......we are talking about catching BG year round, right?? Waxworms would be a close second, but I'm sticking with spikes for my first choice. Any weather, open water or ice fishing, one bait that will catch fish everytime???? Maggots.

HEY TONY,
  COULD YOU PLEASE POST A PIC of a thing you call a Spike? I've heard of em , just never seen one or used either for that matter. I see alot of guys on here talking about em and can't figure it out.

Tooty, "spike" is just a more pleasant sounding word for a maggot...they are the same animal. The word maggot conjures up an uncomfortable mental image for some folks, who envision a dead, bloated animal crawling with flies and vermin.

An even more upscale term for maggots is "eurolarvae"...again, the same critter as maggots or spikes.

OUTSTANDING TONY and I appreciate the explanation. Some folks might say Tooty is not with it and am not up with all the slang terms for live bait buddy. I guess this spring I'll see what a grass shrimp looks like down at Sir Jeffreys and that will be a blast for me ...........

Based on all the locations I have fished successfully.....I would have to say give me a bucket of live grass shrimp and I'll never go hungry.....LOFR is right on....crickets are a very close second for me and easier to acquire....but I couldn't imagine not having grass shrimp tagging along on the Bluegill hole!

Night crawlers have yet to let me down.

Wow! Lot's of different responses, and great choices, all!

Garden worms are hard to beat in my Mason Dixon region, but I have done the maggot gig for a period of years and they, too, are a top-notch, year round bait.

If I had to choose, I'd take garden worms...I can dig them, while I have to buy maggots!

I'd have to put worms at the top of the list, too.

(They can be dug, au naturel,' or raised cleanly. Maggots can also be "manufactured," but it is a somewhat nasty business.)

I'd make crickets the next choice.

       1. ------>  crickets  (live)

       2. ------>  worms  (live)

       3 ------->  grass shrimp  (live)

       but yes # 1 is  CRICKETS --- CRICKETS --- and --- (more) CRICKETS

Night crawlers never let me down
