Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

My first experience with it was with Vanish. On a spin reel and as tippet for steelhead. So-so. Seaguar and P-line seem to be somewhat better, limper, better handling. So my question is... in your opinion, which flourocarbon line would be best, even to spool up with, not just tippet mat'l.. ? steve b

I use fluorocarbon, but only as a 5 or 6 foot leader attached to my main line. I believe it is much harder for the fish to see. I never put it on the whole spool though.
As a leader it works great.

I Agree that the Seaguar in the more expensive short spool makes for better catching leader ( isn't that what we are about?). Vanish and the longer Seaguar ( for a full spool reel) have not been as productive, nor has another brand ( Pixline).

I used a pink/red leader last year several times but the jury's out on this.

For me, if I retie with old or retie with new after a hot bite, and it shuts down when all the other variables seem the same, then I blame or credit the line.
My further thoughts.. would like to just spool up a couple reels for Penn trout and not need to tippet on anything. Do away with one knot etc.. The best bite is first/last light. Difficult for my hands and eyes at this point in life to deal with another knot. So, which is limpest, best "handling" of the current crop of flourocarbon line, in your opinion ? steve b
I've only tried Vanish Steve... but I read that they have made some significant improvements to it since it first came out... especially in the handling area.

Yesterday picked up little spool of Trilene "professional grade" 100% Floroucarbon. Will try next. Yes, had read that the Vanish had been "upgraded'. steve b
In my experience they all work. I have tried almost all of them, but now use Umpqa (superflorocarbon) as I believe it is the limpest, smallest diameter and unlike Vanish, Seaguar and others it is not brittle and knots don't slip. It is difficult to find and it is expensive. The last time I purchased a 30 meter spool it was $17.99. I now purchase it in 100 meter spools for around $40.00 I think.

I always use only 2 to 3 foot leaders and that seems to work fine and the 100 meter spool usually lasts me a year.
Thanks Ray, that brand is marketed to fly dude's. From amongst the fly stuff, I like Frog Hair, but yeah, expensive too. steve b
Vanish transition has been working for me at 6 and 8lb test. Still looking for something I like at 10-12lb test. Didn't care for Vanish or P-line. Been saving up to try some gamma in both 6 and 10lb. When I use 2 and 4lb line, it's always mono.
I have caught five fish each weighing 5 lbs ,all German Browns ,on vanish flourocarbon, in one day ,a good day I might say , but thats what I use as a leader now when I'm chasing gills
I think any of them work just fine as leaders. What steve b and myself are working on is------what brands cast similiar to mono? When spooled up with flouro, all that I have tried are a little stiff and do not cast as far as mono. Right steve? Still, even with the shorter cast, they do work on all the larger gamefish I have tried flouro on.
Yes Jimvision, want opinions on which floro commonly available is most suited to spooling a reel a whole reel, for use on small fish, so we're talking @ 4lb test line. steve b
i use vanish for my tippets,it workes well .i find it works great for top water bugs,i noticed that i get more strikes and less spooks with vanish.
