Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I love a #10 hook, either sproat or Limmerick bend. just good general do-all, do-everything hook for live bait and fly tying or harness making.

What do you guy like?

DAMON;; MY OWN PREF IS EAGLE CLAW HOOKS; IN SIZES 6 OR 8;S;;  ABERDINES;; SOMETIMES A STRONGER HOOK;; JUST MY OWN PREFERENCE THO

If I'm fishing worms, I like an Eagle Claw Aberdeen Cricket hook, size 8.  Really LONG shank.  For flies, I'll use all sorts of hooks, but really like a size 12 scud.

This past year, I pretty much fished microjigs tipped with waxworms all year.  Usually 1/80th size 12, or 1/32 size 8, both jigs with sickle hooks.

Aberdeen light wire hooks get the most use for me , fishing worms/crawlers or Shiners ,Herring ,fathead minnows. Also use for tying up spinner rigs .Size 4,6 for Crappie and Yellow Perch and 8,10 for Gills ,White Perch and small stream Trout are my preference.

Whats the favorite Catfish/Bullhead hook, you guys ?

Eagle Claw L702G circle hook, size 3/0.  At least, I think that's what I bought years ago.  The tackle shop I bought a large stash of bulk hooks had a price on them, and a code number that I think was for Eagle Claw hooks.  But, they must have been repackaged, as I was buying them in packs of 50, but most places only sell them in packs of 10.

Couldn't find that hook on the Eagle Claw site , but while I got you I have a question. I 'm from NJ and  here we refer to Channel Cats and the much smaller growth Bullheads as two completely different types of Catfish but suspect certain regions of the country  "Bullheads " is a nickname for Channel Cats.Is that your experience?

Yes, down here they are two different fish, we  don't get many bullheads here.

Back in OK, they are referred to by their proper names.  I know down in TX that Bullheads are commonly called "Pollywogs" or just "Wogs" for short.

Up here in MI, I've had a couple people mention they were seeing lots of "Bullheads" in the shallows at one of my home lakes.  However, all I ever saw were Channel Cats.  Maybe some of the folks up here combine the two?

That's what I'm thinking Allen .

The same hook: Limmerick, sproat or O'Shaughnessy in 3/0 for tying tandem hook harnesses for catfish.

If I don't feel like fooling with the harness, I go with a tuna circle that I imported from China. They're 4x strong in a 4/0 size. 4/0 circle hook with 8/0 thick wire. Dang strongest hook I've ever seen. I sell them in 100 packs if anyone is interested.

Sounds like you're into BIG cats Damon!

Well, at least I want to be! Blue cat season is just starting here really once the rain clears up. We've had such a bad drought this year.
