Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

My Dad took me out and taught me the the Art of bluegill fishing , and I have tried to pass this on to my kids. This morning we beat the heat and got out at sunrise to feed crickets to the bluegill for breakfast,We went to one of our favorite spots where we could cast into the shadows of the trees and they were waiting for our offerings. We caught our limits in 2 hours , my daughter with her cane pole and of course me with my flyrod. We were counting when we throught out the crickets, 1,2,3, pull in a fish. I dont know who had more fun , Her catching a limit in 2 hours or me watching her catch a limit with a cane pole in 2 hours . I think my Dad would be proud,  Watch out I'm going to start her on a 7 ft flyrod next, who knows I may be creating Lordette of the fly rods.

She's too pretty to be another LOFR. I'm going to think of her as "Cane Pole Cutie". I'm going to think of you as "Fly Flapper". Happy Fathers Day "Flap" ole buddy.

I got to know. Is that the "Crappy Cabin" in the background of the first pic?
B-Man, these photos were taken at a 600 acre Arkansas Game and Fish Lake in North Central Arkansas about 18 miles away from the Crappy Cabin, This lake has heavy pressure from bass fishermen and it tends to stunt the bluegill, but on this trip we were looking for numbers not quality, My next trip will be to the old oxbows for some Trophy Gills .
Sounds like a great day! Me, I just caught a single crappie on father's day lol.

My oldest is maybe a bit young yet to try a fly rod (7) and I'm too poor of a fly caster to teach it, but if she or her sisters ever express any interest in it, I'll be sure to get them started. Catching a fish on a fly is a special thrill. Even missing one is pretty exciting, really.

Thought ya'll might want to see a couple more pics, remember this 100 fish were caught in the shadows not off the beds, oh yea I also caught 2 catfish with my flyrod, one bullhead and one channel, and all this was done in 2 hours.

She would have a ball in the marina by me, very easy to catch 100 in two hours, but the fish are bigger.
Makes me remember my cane pole days with my Paw Paw in Arkansas. Got my first name Rodger from his last name Rodgers. Couldn't afford crickets, but he allowed as how digging worms was good exercise for me.
