Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Here in WI the 2nd 3rd & 4th weeks saw redord high temps.  No one seemed able to connect with walleye run at the Miss R dams. Usually this happens at 45-48 degrees F.  There seem to be two theories 1) the spawn happened in one night as temps rose above 48 and 2) egss were not developed enough to trigger spawning. I saw no bluegill activity durung this early warm-up.  What effect do you think the early "false" spring will havw or has had on gills? tgoltry

You know we have not yet seen the Bluegills in shallow water as of yet. Have caught a few shellcrackers in the bedding areas but very few Bluegill. The early spring seems to have had some impact on Crappie and other bass species but we have been every week and without any great numbers as of yet, so I think the Bluegill spawn is still on the same track as of last year. Around April 15th here in the central part of Alabama...we will see in a couple of weeks if I am right..

thanks for the info on Al.

Thanks for the info on bluegills in the shallows.  Maybe the two weeks of record warm here in WI was just a blip on the radar.  Seemed to have had more effect on humans than fish.  Oh well, back to tying flies in 34/40 degree weather and waiting for June.  Tom Goltry
