Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Is drop shot rigging a legal rig in Michigan, with the weight bellow the hook? (seems like a snagging rig) If so how effective is it in small mouth fishing.

It is an great rig for bass and bluegills!
I know it works like magic for deep water crappie! And ive caught a few gills on fathead minnows dropshoting for crappie in 27' of water to.
I have used this rig with good sucsess.I use a round sinker, and gold aberdeen hooks. So you can cast in the weeds without snagging.Caught 3 ,10 plus inch gills last fall.Leaf worms for bait.
While some people use it as a snagging rig, it is an excellent way to catch big bluegills in deep water and is why Michigan changed the rule as Hsmit discussed. If you are casting a heavy drop shot rig with a treble hook up the line in a river or where salmon or steelhead stage, it is a very effective snaging rig because the hook is the first thing that hits the fish.

Snagging happens a lot for salmon and steelhead where I live, but it is easy to do using other methods if that is your goal.
