Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

My late summer fishing is predominatly spent drifting over deep water for suspended bluegills. Today I managed about a dozen decent fish with a few being over 9. These fish were anywhere from 14-22 feet down over 30-35 feet of water. On other lakes I've gotten them 20-25 feet down over 60-65 feet. I use a large split shot about 30 inches up from a foam spider tipped with a red worm or a wax worm. I'm wondering how many bluegill fisherman on here utlize drifting for suspended gills and the various methods you guys use. It seems like this time of year the only way I can consistantly put good fish in the boat is to find them on the thermocline.

I have been getting into drifting the last couple of years.Sometimes I use bait, sometimes ice jigs and waxies.Sometimes spoons.Usually with any decent weight I'll fish with the drift if live bait and bobbers I fish into the bait so it has a chance to get down to the fish.
i drift in lakes i go to, but i usually fish in rivers, streams, or farm ponds, so i dont do alot of drifting. when i do i use tubes under floats.
Great way to catch gills in the Summer.Drifting worms with split shot in an inflatable boat. The wind takes you to the fish.Ahh the memories!
