Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

How much dead weight should a cane pole be able to pickup as a way testing it's strength? i'm making a whippy 9ft cane pole now and id like to stress test it a bit, but don't want to break it unnecessarily. It should be just right for bluegill but you never know what you might hook into. Thanks in advance for your ideas.

I add a Pic of the cane pole project. The small diameter cane needed a handle to make it more comfortable to hold for long periods of time.

Beautiful work. Not sure how big the bass are in your area but I would bet you are good for about 3-4 pounds. If your sight fishing you should be ok. I use a similar pole at 5 foot for micro fishing.

Thanks Joe, I'll probably use it close to shore with 4lb test at the most. A bigger fish should break off before he breaks my pole. Thanks Jeffery who woulda thought I'd I use corn cob.

4# should work fine. I use 2# and have been lucky since last season I managed two incidental bass catches, Both fish  were on the smaller side :)

I put an eye on the end and one about 3ft up the pole . I'll tie to the second one and then thread through the end , if the tip breaks I might be able to land a big fish.
