Hey guys i just recieved a comment on my page from somebody named cristina simon. This is probabally some guy over in africa or near there. They  say that they want to be friends and want to talk to me about something, and then give me thier email so we can talk in private. I had this happen to some of my friends and myself on other social sites.They will give you some sob story and then try to hit you up for money, so if you get something like this ignore it. I left the comment on my page in case you want to read it.I cant beleive it now they hitting up fishing websites. See you guys later good fishing to ya.

yeah i got 1 from a girl few days ago on the dating site called zoosk that facebook uses and tryed to get me to buy her a passport, why is everyone getting hit all of a sudden, these holidays i guess, well happy holidays to all and to all good fishing. :)

Yes, 419 does seem to have taken kind of an uptake for the holidays, which amazes considering that it was already at all-time highs before that.  For 4 years my day job involved filtering 419 and phishing, until I switched to web security this year. I still keep tabs on 419 because it's kind of in my blood, and I've never seen so much of it going around as I do now.

WRT the "girl" on Zoosk, yes, definitely watch out for any "girls" who email you from Africa; apart from usually being guys, they're definitely out to steal your money. You might be surprised how often they succeed, too. The toughest part of my email security work would be when I'd see an email we intercepted from a 419er to a victim, which the victim released from quarantine and reported as a false positive, only to learn from examining the mail that the victim was about to, or already had, sent money to the 419 and was believing the whole story.

Incredible.  The lengths people will go to...
