Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

If anyone here owns a G Loomis SR 720, I think you will agree, these rods are sweet ! If you haven't had a chance to pick one up and 'fondle it' ;-) ...especially with a nice little ML spinning reel attached, please do if you get the chance.

So far as I know, this is the only 6ft, 1 piece, 1-4 lb micro light spinning rod, made by any company, anywhere, period ! And it's actually one of the cheaper G Loomis rods too. You might get one for about $90.

Anyway, with the exception of some of those really long poles for dipping in tulies and such, I can't imagine ever using a different rod for Sunfish.

Oh, and as a sidenote, these rods are still tough enough to land huge fish too. My biggest fish on it so far, was a 71", 90 lb'er... will post here....

Anyway, check out a G Loomis SR 720 ! I've owned 3 of them. Only had one broken by a 15 lb Halibut. Landed it just fine.... then it whacked the heck out of it with its tail... What do they say ? Ahhh Snap ! ;-) LOL

Peace,
Fish

Good information....great photo....very entertaining! :-)
Yikes that is a whooper thanks for the tip on the rod ya got any pics of the rod and reel? thx AJ
Hey Al, I didn't.... but "I tried" to take a couple shots just now.... not easy shooting something with so little surface area, indoors, at night, with flash ! But enough for the excuses :-)

Oh BTW, each of the 3 different SR 720's I've owned were a different color... this green one, one midnight blue one, and the one coppery brown one that the Halibut broke by tail whipping it....

Also, I don't know if you guys have ever owned a rod which used sliding rings to attach the reel to the seat.... But when I first saw this, I thought it seemed cheap, and not very secure. However, I tape ALL of my reels to the handles with batters tape anyway, and with these, you can put the reel way forward, for better balance. To make a long story short, I love these handles now :-)

Peace,
Fish
Hey Fish, I gotta get one of those rods!!! Sounds like they definitely will do the trick!!! Thanks for the tips and photos--whopper of a fish there!!!! Way to go!!!!
