Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

After all the rain here in middle Tn. my lake is still real high. Was out with my brother just a few days before it hit, he was visiting from In.We had a good day tight lining on Wed. morning with about 50 hand size. Had a mixed bag of about the same number on Mon. with crappie being the main target. We were long line trolling 1/16 oz roadrunners that day using Bobby Garland baby shad bodies. Went all over after work yesterday trying to find a ramp that is open, as my brother-in-law is visiting for three days. Finally found one steep ramp that is open on the other side of the lake. It is only about 2 miles from my house as the crow flies, but a good 1/2 hour by back roads. Just getting on the lake will be worth it though. Now if we can find the gills with all this high water. Not sure if I should try the normal haunts or try up in the flooded brush. Will have to really watch for floating logs and such. Don't think I'll go any faster than it takes just to hold her up on plane, and can I say life jackets, life jackets, life jackets. Hope none of you had your homes flooded. We were lucky to come out of it ok being this close to the lake. Had one street closed behind us though. Shows how close it came. Took some pictures by my normal ramp before the water had completely covered the parking lot. Hope this one attaches ok.

Well we were able to get on the lake yesterday after getting Gene a license, and picking up crickets. Tried the brush at first in some protected coves as we were looking for cover from the wind. Picked up a few that were scattered. finally made our way over to one of my normal haunts behind a big house boat at fate sanders marina. Didn't have any luck, but the water was about 12 ft. deeper there than normal, so moved shallower. Found a spot between two slips in about 24 ft. of water, and tied off to the marina. It was like fishing in a barrel. In a couple hours we put about 60 keepers in the ice chest till the bite slowed down around 5:30pm. Needless to say my brother-in-law had a great time. I love tight lining with light tackle and high vis line. Just wait for the thump, or that line to twitch. Gene has friends to visit today, as he used to work in this area, but can't wait for tomorrow, only hope the weather is as nice. Tight lines guys.
