Mark Sleeper,

what size mike?that would be a killer smallmouth fly on my turf

it's a size 10 bent nymph hook. we used to call them caddis worm hooks. unfortunately i have thousands of hooks (separated in plastic divided boxes). I have long since lost the names of them.

me too, besides different makers call em different things

does this help ?

the site Sleepy sent me to was a 'jig' pattern. i don't have any water anywhere near me that is deep enough for jigs. I also tied the silly legs more like a tarantula pattern and replaced the estaz (used on the site) with some brown/pink chenille.

perfect size, have to look for those 60dgree hooks in 10 or 8.they seem to like purple here for dome reason, all they eat is crawdads minnows and helgramites, never saw any of those purple.

might have to tie that on a jig hook tho as the smallie water by me is very rocky.need that hook point up.other than that it a great bug

oops...

I headed the wrong direction then (grin)

here is one of a few I made without the bead and a sample of the hook. some refered to it as a 'san juan' hook or larvae hook. thousands and thousands of trout have been caught on this hook by simply wrapping it with a flat red monofilament and finishing with red thread.

for my record...

i'm not sure fish see purple as purple. LOL (but that's a whole other can of worms, i'll not go there)
