Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This is my first try at beginning a thread here, so I hope I'm doing it right.

I have read several people's comments about adding a piece of live bait to a jig. Such as putting a cricket on a jig. My question is, "Is that better than putting a cricket on a bare hook?"

Also, is there a pattern database here somewhere where I can see pictures of jigs and read the materials list or a step-by-step of how to tie that particular pattern?

Are there any "Swaps" going on here where, say, a dozen guys send a set of a dozen flies to a "host" who sends back everyone one each of all the other jigs submitted? That way you send in 12 of the same pattern and get back 12 different patterns.

Or instead of that, would any of you guys who fly fish be willing to send me 3 or 4 jigs and let me send you 3 or 4 flies that are good bluegill flies?

Thanks

get up here David!

Been years since MN.
I wouldn't know how to act on the ice now. Slip and crack my arse crack, no doubt!

Don't forget your cleats.

its really over rated... lol

I never catch anything real big but still love it Ken :)

actually i love it alot also... i just downplay it a little haha

i really cant wait till my first outing i have some strategies id like to see played out...

i just hope the ice doesnt get to thick like last year.

15 " for me to hand drill last ice season in NE NEW JERSEY

I've been putting a few anise seed in my bags of finished jigs. Probably not as good as anise oil but I figure if there in there long enough it has to penetrate the jigs somewhat probably better than nothing at all. I know when I put it in my spaghetti sauce a little goes a long way..

should work dick.i put garlic salt in my plastic worm bags.i think our homade stuff holds that chemical smell from the glues and finishes .i notice a fly catches better after a few fish.must be the slime

I'm gonna start adding garlic to the worms' food.
Put it in their box the night before, too.

I found a way to make my own scent to use on baits.  some of it is anise oil;;   made to use as a rub on type; and I think it will stay on the bait longer.  have to do a bit more experimenting.

This is the recipe you shared with me, Carl?
