Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This is my first try at beginning a thread here, so I hope I'm doing it right.

I have read several people's comments about adding a piece of live bait to a jig. Such as putting a cricket on a jig. My question is, "Is that better than putting a cricket on a bare hook?"

Also, is there a pattern database here somewhere where I can see pictures of jigs and read the materials list or a step-by-step of how to tie that particular pattern?

Are there any "Swaps" going on here where, say, a dozen guys send a set of a dozen flies to a "host" who sends back everyone one each of all the other jigs submitted? That way you send in 12 of the same pattern and get back 12 different patterns.

Or instead of that, would any of you guys who fly fish be willing to send me 3 or 4 jigs and let me send you 3 or 4 flies that are good bluegill flies?

Thanks

Randall Runion

Jim...maybe the ice won't be quite so thick this year. We usually do not have safe ice, only every 6 or 7 years. Last year, I couldn't get on the panfish but got 38 bass through the ice, including some whoppers...

It might be worth the effort!

very nice fish Jim!

30"? Holy moley!

heres what i was looking at last year

Dang!!

Wow ,twice what I had to hand drill through ,I got it easy and didn't know it !

I have never used or felt I needed a shelter either Jim . I did fish at the start of a blizzard a few years ago and got cold hands and packed it in after a few hours .Glad I didn't have a shelter I would've probably stayed out and got the truck stuck in the snow heh heh!

Heck of an outlook - talk about thinking positive!

Randell;; talented fly tyer Allen Morgan made a few for me;;  and the deadliest one was a bluegill colored type.  it has a permant place on one of my fly rods.  and no sir;; I do not tip it!!  those gills attacked it with a vengeance!!   I need to learn how to tye one of those to!!  maybe we can get Allen to post a how to do it!!!

I posted a SBS (Step By Step) over on the "Fly tying, and specific instructions only" group.

John;;bet you get one heck of a work out using that drill!!

Got to see these in use on a lake over in Illinois last season. After watching the clouds drift by while flat on my back a few times, I began to pay more attention to what the In- Fisherman guys were wearing. Vowed I would have a set before next season.
