Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

YA KNOW THIS DOESN'T MEAN IT'S GOTTA BE AN OLD ROD, COULD BE MODERN AND OF ANY MATERIAL, GRAPHITE, GLASS, BORON , OR ANY COMBO OF THESE.

MY OWN FAVORITE LENGTH IS 7'9" AND of course it would be a Wonderod this length . I have several this length and can't really say for sure which model I like the best but there is no doubt about the length or weight .........

My fave is a spin fly rod from Olymoic, an 80's vintage piece I got off ebay for $10.

It is a 7' rod, made of hollow core glass. I run a 5wt line on it. Standard spinning guides are fit on it, which makes it versatile.

My go to fly rod is a Orvis graphite "Flea" 7' 2 piece rod loaded with a 4wt double taper line...I also fish a lot with a 1wt Orvis graphite....My spinning rigs are both Cabela rods 71/2 footers....

Yup Bill those Orvis are great little rods and used to use a Powell 3 weight myself a long time ago that I had made. Caught every thing on that little rod , but in the evening it was a great small popper rod for crappies etc. I"ve read many times how the smaller rods stress fish because of the longer playing time that comes with them and light tippets. Who knows but I moved on to glass finally many years ago. My all time favorite fly rod though was a Lamiglass IM 700 that I made for myself and 3 other customers. 5 weight , 8' in length , Just the best all around rod I"ve ever casted. Sold mine of course for a ridiculous amount of dough and never should have gotten rid of it of course. THe other 3 fellas that have em that I made won't part with em at any price and the blanks are now unavailable from the manufacturer , so it goes in life I guess...........

Ok Yall, my main battle rod ,which I  have been using for the last 25 years is a Browning  Gold Medallion 8 ft 6 inch graphite in a 6 weight. It is super sensitive, can feel every twitch, and has enough backbone to land 14 lb catfish, big smallmouth, and the pull the meanist bluegill out of the deepest cover. My line is a floating wt. forward  with about 2 ft of the taper cut off, a no knot eyelet at the end and about 7 ft of 10 lb  florucarbon line as my leader,if fish cant see it it dosen't matter how thick it is, plus it's strong enough to bend the # 8 wire hooks  when I snag them, then bend them back in shape and your fishing again. Sorry for recycling these photos   LOFRthis photo should prove how sensitive this rig is.

YUP GOTTA AGREE WITH  YA LOFR ON THE WEIGHT ISSUE ... I LIKE THE 6 WEIGHTS MYSELF CAUSE SEEMS LIKE EVERYWHERE I GO THERE IS WEEDS OR SNAGS ETC.

I gotta try me some of those no-tie eyelets...
