Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

10 1/2 Inches long. Has been eating Aquamax 600 for three of the last 4 years. She's not quite so gravid as earlier in the year, but perhaps she still has some eggs left.

Feed training Redears can be accomplished in a couple of months, although the longer you keep them on pellets only, the better they stay on them when released back into a pond. This batch of Redears was 3" - 6" long when I started training them in Sept 2006, so this one is at least 5 and maybe 6 years old.

I feed a mix of Aquamax 500 & 600 (at about a 1:10 ratio), plus Aquamax Largemouth pellets to my feed trained LMB.

Details on feed training Redears can be found in the May-June 2010 issue of Pond Boss Magazine (pondboss.com).

Aquamax is mostly for bass and BG .
Game Fish Chow are more in line for your catfish feed.

I know that BG and many other sunfish are easy to feed, but the RES prefer the crustaceans, snails, mussels etc. That is the only reason I thought it was odd.

What is the difference between Aquamax and Game Fish Chow since they are both made by Purina?

Most hatcheries feed their fish as they raise them. But aquamax is made from fish it self and smell some what like fish. But again it takes time to train them to eat it in new ponds. You feed what they will eat in about 15 to 20 min. As they eat each day soon you'll find more and more hitting the food. I started out with a coffee cup once a day. Now I'm up to 2 1lb coffee can full twice a day. And really they would eat more if I feed them. Bass are a lot harder to train. I'm just now getting a few to eat the food. The gill and the tiplia are just pigs when they learn what the feeding is all about. At 6PM when I feed you can see all the gill near the bank waiting on me.

Five Stars - Dude, unbelievable. I wish I had your patience and ability to feed train my RES...

Adding any type of food to you fish will equal weight to your fish. If 25% of your fish are feed train, it will equal 25% forge fish for the ones that don’t eat the feed. It’s a win, win deal. Feeding everyday same place same time over time more and more of the fish will start eating the feed. I use Aquamax 400. Is smaller then the 600 which bring the minnow to it which brings my bass. Feed per pound equal weight per pound on the over all total fish per pond. Feed also help keep the weight on your fish. They don’t have to work as hard chasing forge food. Again it’s a win, win deal. This fish is a great example for this.

Ok now how much work did you have to put in to get these guys to feed on pellets?

Plus is that a good size for a 4 year old RES?

Just wondering how to compare since this one eats feed?
