I have two poles that I use all the time. They are 9 ft. long pinnacle vertex IM7 spinning rods with cork handles. They are light action, and are actually salmon rods, but work perfectly for bluegill and crappie. I have all kinds of other rods from bass pro and b&m, and although they are all great rods, I keep coming back to these two for tight lining and occasionally slip float fishing. They are also very reasonably priced. They can be had for $25-30 each. Check them out on the web.

I use light action ugly sticks myself and they work wonders for me, I'm a poor fisherman and $35 a pole(tax included) is a price I am willing to pay for an ugly stick without reel because I was raised on them, and still have my first ugly stick and it still hasn't messed up on me. it's only a 5' 6" and I don't use it often now but despite being around 10 years old and spending a few winters in my boat in the weather it still holds true. at my local wal-mart they sell ugly sticks 31.98 (before tax) for any length ranging 5' to 8'. I have 5 ugly sticks now and thats all I ever use(unless catfishing).

I have a 10' B&M Crappie Graphite Jig Pole that I highly recommend. Coupled with a Shimano Symetre 500FJ that is spooled with 4lb fluorocarbon line it is an ideal Panfish outfit. I do a lot of drop-shotting and just love the sensitivity of this setup.

You can get B&M poles in lots of places, BassProShops has them for $39.99 to $44.99 depending on length.
