These males are caught in the same area with some BG males - all staging to spawn.

I agree Carl - great fighters. They look tasty - going to have to try some soon. These are chunky enough to fillet..

ANOTHER GREAT THING ABOUT THESE--  FANTASTIC EATING !  WE HAVE SOMETHING LIKE THESE IN MY AREA;;  GREAT FIGHTERS;; AND IF BIG ENOUGH;;   FILLET TIME !!

The GSF x BG hybrids will out fight a bluegill every day of the week. Females are rare, since the cross produces 95% male offspring. I've caught females, think I have some photos here someplace.

They fight all the way to the net - don't remember Green Sunfish doing that. Haven't seen a female yet.....

These are looking more and more like some kind of hybrid, especially this one with the faint vertical bars.  Green Sunfish don't have that.
