Well, I much prefer a short handle section. Seems to me anything handle wise behind the reel is wasted length when it comes to casting. Understand how they might not fit correctly in a rod holder if you use them for actually fishing-ie holding your pole. Guess one could turn the reel 180 degrees and it should then slide farther inside holder. I just use rod holders to holds rods in vertical position for storage purposes.

Reel on right is custom 6'6" ultralight, reel on lefts is 6' Cabela's Fish Eagle II ultralight I've had for decades. Reel in middle is 5'3" custom made ultralight with short handle. Reel on right being 15" longer overall ,yet is only 6" longer from reel post where my right hand/fingers go. Reel on left being 9' longer yet is the same length from where my hand goes. Really like the short handle rod and it seems to cast just as far as the longer ones. Just ordered another one of the one in middle.

on my 6-0’ Wild series has a different reel set-up and Nanofil… I was really surprised at the casting distance … right now im not comparing apples to apples. I’ll do a more complete study later swapping the same reel.

The rod handle is considerably shorter on the HellBent Panfish/Trout series than the Wild Series and many of my other rods… it is a negative for me it does not seat in my rod holders.

So the 6 foot with fast tip cast farther than the 5.6 foot with the same tip?

That Hell Bent seems to be discontinued but can find some at various places on the net.

I just don't like those long cork handles-so much of the rod is wasted length behind the reel seat. It's like only a 5 foot rod from the reel seat?

My son Kenny fell in love with my 6’ Long-caster… (Shakespeare Wild series rod, Shimano Sienna 1000 RD and 8# GLISS)… and took it over! I went to my supplier and picked up on another (I already own the 5-0’ model) HellBent panfish/trout with an extra fast tip in the 6-0’ length… rigged it with the same Shimano Sienna 1000 RD model loaded with 8# GLISS… that extra fast tip really helps on the distance.
