Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

The 42 foot poles I fish in competition feature carbon rap which creates a hollow tube which is stiff and light. On large carp and channel cats the top 2/3 of the pole bends. At the final 8 feet of pole to the tip, there is an elastic which is used to absorb the fish's first giant runs. This allows us to fish lighter line and use that shock absorber to take most of the hit.
I will post more on this method later- our team was fishing just past center of the canal. The long pole allows us to hold a very small bite indicator and hold the float back in the current. This presents the bait naturally beneath in one spot.

There are some great videos of pole fishing on YouTube. Search that phrase or look for a guy named Bob Nudd.

I It is NOT one piece - good thinking on that for sure. It is in 8 sections and each section can be taken apart - it is about 5 foot in the storage tube.
I can fish it in a moderate wind for 8 hours. The wind is the enemy of that if that wind is from the side -then my arm gets a great workout!
To bring the pole in, I slide it hand-over-hand and about 15 feet behind me is a roller. The butt end hits the roller and then I shoot the whole thing back quickly for baiting it up. If fighting a fish and it is big, I break it apart 3x.
I will most definitely illustrate and do some video when the ice is out - Hurry up March!!
