I have seen some of these fish get long as four to five feet and watched a guy fillet one on the Pier. However, i have no idea how they taste. And they do not sting but do have tiny sharp teeth along with sharp points along their backs.

That elasmobranch is a Pacific Thornback, related to rays, but is actually more closely related to Guitarfish. We catch them all the time while surf fishing with various natural baits in Southern California. An interesting fish.

No but the Guitarfish is also called a Shovelnose Shark and Stingrays are in that same family
