Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Found these old lures in an old metal tackle box at a garage sale. Bought the tackle box for $5 bucks. Are these old wooden baits worth much? I want to try them out at our local lake this spring.

Pretty sure the wire spreader was original to the Flatfish, although the Lazy Ike probably copied the idea once it appeared.
The Helin Flatfish came out in the mid-30s. I collected em for a while - pretty cool story really. The guy that designed it, Charlie Helin, was a mechanic and carved the first ones by hand!
I think by the late 40s they claimed a million had been sold, although not all carved by Charlie LOL!
He always hated the imitators, too, from what I recall reading.

David;; I have  had a few lazy Ikes in the past; even rigged one or two with stinger hooks like that one;; only reason I made my comment

Those spreaders were standard in the Helin Flatfish, Carl.
Great lure if you can learn it. Takes a little timing to get

"Shannon Twin spin" huh Jeff .Neat .I wonder if it was made for Pike specifically .Jim Cosgrove , I think you're right . Maybe a Heddon 'Dowagiac' not a Dalton Special

Thanks guys!  I believe the red lure is an old "Shannon Twin Spin".

Glass eyes were prominent in the 30's but they lasted longer, I believe.
Im thinking the 50s

glass eyes would be 1930s i believe.the double prop i believe is a heddon.should be some writing on the props

Most are quite common, or once were, anyway.

The Flatfish and SuperDuper are still made today.
The big mouth lures are South Bend Bass-o-Reno's, or copies.

The prop bait and articulated diver are unknown to me.

Those with eyes appear to have glass bead eyes. That went out of fashion with plastic molding, which hints at the age.

The wire spinner was a pretty common item, back then, although there were a million different makers. If it has a name it could be a surprise

The double armed spinner is pretty cool, and along with the articulated diver, those two are the most unique.

All in all, this lot looks pretty common. I doubt any of it will fund your retirement, but you never can be sure without research.
All that aside what a great find for a little money!
