20151110 ~ Earl and I started out the day with a solid game plan of vertically jigging the deeper basins
...trying to duplicate Sundays outing. We had success deep jigging in 20 + FOW for B’gills feeding close to bottom. We picked a different lake with similar structure etc. I set Earl up with my ice fishing sonar where he could just drop the transducer over the side so he could follow his jig to the correct fish depth.
The first strategy once out on the lake was to scan the depths with DSI and SONAR mark fish and add their waypoints to fish. Problem was the depths were pretty much vacant. So we headed to the shallows to start from there and work our way out. Earl visually spotted some jumbo crappie in less than 3’ FOW. We tied on some small panfish jigs and started slamming the crappie and B’Gills straight away. Completely different pattern than the other day.
Top baits for the day were…
1. Trigger x 2.5” Minnow in shad color
2. 2” Berkley Power Minnow
3. Chartreuse Jelly Jig
These baits were tossed towards and parallel to the shoreline and mostly crappie and some B’Gill mixed in were crossing the gunwales by the dozens. Very productive day. Slip bobbers with live waxies and pink GULP scored far less in productivity. The fish were in shallow and actively feeding.
Earl produced the top two BFOTD!!! With a 12” plus crappie and an eight inch P’Seed x Hybrid tagged on the same bait… a 2.5” trigger x minnow. Mid November recorded one of my best days out fishing and not one boat in sight. Good fishing does not end with cold late fall weather… this is the time they put the feed bags on to ready for the long icy winter.
Earls BFOTD!! 8"+class P'Seed
... some over the slot b"Gills
over the slot Crappie... caught on a Jelly Jig in chartreuse
ALL WERE SUCCESSFULL CPR'ED!

20151116... Fishing a tough bite from shore... 3 SMB's on... one hit the net... 15" class at Ross Lake
20151116- had a blast fishing today even though quantity was down...
started fishing the little park in town and immediately hooked up with some SMB s landed only one on the Dying Minnow Rig with 1/16 oz jig and 3" Power Minnow. Glad to get a little fishing in even though it was but a half hour.
last year at this time we had ice and snow...
... so after i spent a couple hours at home after this little trip in town i decided to head for a little walk down the stree for a little continued shoreline action. as i was loading my rods i noticed one of my favorite rigs was missing and realized i left it in the park on a sitting bench. panic set in and i made a mad rush into town to check if it was still there. It WAS!!! what luck!!! this rod has seen so many memorable fish and miles of braid thru its guides... i would have genuinely missed it. Sum of the components and a new reel was at about $100.00. OUCH!!. this rod has saw me thru some serious therapy after hurting my back at work in 2006.
i continued my shoreline fishing with this rod pitching the Blig 'N Jig rig and hooking up with some toothy preds losing two of them to bite offs and landing a small 24" class. skinny in girth but beautiful coloring and some drag pulling runs on the light stuff. Fishing the cold water could leave you with some small totals ... however today i seriously welcomed the bite.
