Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Needed to tie something real quick for ice fishing that resembled a floating spider I used last spring

Allen ... check out this video... buck tail from fresh road kill and he ties the jigs right out on the ice.

thanks Eric... i think it is a good bait choice for whats going on now ... all these gills zooming the shallows. might be any jig with a slow fall. and hey i think gills are suckers for rubber legs.

Yeah, once you get a successful pattern, you want to do different sizes of that pattern, just like in fly fishing.

Winter is the prime time for picking up roadkill.  There are no active insects that will infest the dead critter.  Once it warms up, I leave all roadkill alone, UNLESS I hit the critter myself, or saw it get hit and can pick it up immediately.

Being up in MI, you'll really want to look at roadkill deer carcasses.  Those tails!  Prime Northern Whitetail bucktails, long hair and FULL!  Curing a tail isn't the easiest thing; you have to get them clean of all fat, and the skin is rather thick.  This is, of course, if it's legal.  Check the laws in Michigan.  Some states don't allow people to pick up roadkill fur-bearing critters without a Trapping License.

Yeah, just wait, Slip Sinker!  The lint trap in your dryer is a good source of dubbing.  Friends and family will not let you near family pets if you have a pair of scissors in your hand.  Roadkill takes on a whole new meaning.  You start making friends with hunters, or become one yourself.  You develop a collection of fingernail polishes that rivals, and eventually exceeds, your wife's collection.

Ask me how I know.......

Yes, it is indeed, a very slippery slope.....
