Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Here is the SJJ (Scruffy Jointed Jitterbug) after a little TLC.
Fresh coat of low-viz "Frog Skin" paint makes it look at least kinda life-like.
The aluminum bill has been buffed to a luster.
The eyes are painted in a leering, high contrast stare.
I left the original front hook, because I didnt want to fool with replacing it and the screw eyes. When I do this, I coat em with silver paint, and they work fine.
The rear hook was shot, which you can just make out in the pic. Final inspection revealed the flaw, so I replaced it with a #6 double "stinger hook."

This is the first hinged Jitterbug I've added to my collection. Now, the SJJ can join the others of its kind in my tackle box.

Thanks, John. The satisfaction angle, returning something to its useful purpose, appeals to me.
You know that about me. It's a respect thing, as odd as that may sound.
I'm one of those guys that assesses everything based on whether it can be repaired, reused, or repurposed. It may be my Depression-era mother coming out, or the fact that:
a. I've never had money,
b. I got a little skill.

I don't try to fix EVERYTHING - there are some limits. But I know most everything can BE fixed and this revived. If I had a real shop, with cement floor and overhead space, well.., I'd be in trouble!

Thanks, Ken. That's high praise, in my book.

I try to keep the finishes simple, and use what I have on hand.
The olive green was some left over paint my wife had from a project of hers. The spray can calls it "Italian Sage."
The brown is model enamel, ditto the white/red/black eye paints.
The light yellow is nail polish I got from the $.25 bin.

I prime with $0.99¢ flat white spray paint, so that's the belly. Several light gloss coat applications seal it all together.

I'll spend about 2.5 hours working it over, broken up in small sub-routines. Sanding here, painting there, etc.
Lori says at the cost of labor, it'd be cheaper to buy the things outright. From her fem-economists' point of view, I suppose she's right.

But, I got it in a group lot of about a dozen lures, at a total cost of just under $5. This makes it's "price to own" about $0.60. I might have $.25 with of materials in it, so it's on-the-shelf-price is, what... about 85¢?
Since the price of MY LABOR is a little evening time (where I'm just mashing my ass anyway), and some hush puppies for energy, well... I like to think I come out ahead, ya know?

Thanks Ken.
Hardly pro-grade work, but at least workman-like.
It'll catch em, I'm sure.
