Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Back in the old days the old mountain men would get together for a rendevous  , Tootie and I were just wondering who would be interested and like to join us in early Sept on Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee  for a Old fashion bluegill rendevouis . This wont be a fishing tournament but just a BBG get together for a good time catching fish, eating good, swapping flies and lies.  Does this not sound like too much fun ! We arn't getting any younger, let us know what you think!   LOFR

THANKS BUDDY FOR GILLS IF POSSIBLE ........

Wow...that does sound like a great idea!

every body welcome to come-- this September; to a big blue gill meeting;; at reel foot lake.  like LOFR says;;  old time mountain men- use to have rendezvous;;  so lets start our own!!  how about it every body??  lets hear your input!!

LOFR AND ALL YA , BEEN CHECKING INTO REEL FOOT  FALL FISHING ...... SSSSSSSSSSLOW FOR GILLS AND CRAPPIES FOR THAT MATTER TILL WATER STARTS TO COOL SOME . MAYBE ANOTHER LOCATION IS NEEDED , CERTAINLY SOME SUGGESTIONS ARE...... WE should have had the foresight to have done this , this spring LOFR..
WELL I'M GOING FISHING TODAY WITH OLD DOUG P.A.#1 !!!!!! HOPEFULLY PHOTOS TONIGHT .....STRAWBERRY IS LOOKING BETTER ALL THE TIME LOFR......

I taked to my friend R.J. who lives at and has guided on Reelfoot and he says that you can catch Bluegill all year. It's not like the spawn but they can be caught. I don't know if any other waters have strong fall bite. Some more input from other members could give some insight.

THANKS SO MUCH KEITH , JUST THE INPUT WE NEED FOR THIS AND NEED OTHER FOLKS IDEA'S TOO OF COURSE....

Thanks for the info Keith, we all know that Sept is not the prime time big numbers of bluegill harvest like it is in the Spring, but there are still catchable fish in the water next to the structures in the Lake, was looking at Sept because it is not as hot as August so what do yall think , what would be a good time ?  Spring, Summer , or Fall ? The  get together  fish fry , fly swap, and visiting will be as much fun as catching fish, catching fish is a bonus, and just because they are a little harder to catch shouldn't be a problem for these talented old dogs.    LOFR

YUP think you are right LOFR . Timing is critical , but the fellowship of the fisherman is more important than the actual numbers of fish..... Personally today at 83 Degrees was plenty hot . Seems the older I get the less I like the heat . However Fall for me no summer for sure.. Spring is so unpredictable anymore who can guess a year in advance when to go........

September is alright by me. The weather is more predictable and a tad cooler. The full moon should be considered even in the fall. I know we want bluegills but don't forget all the other species in abundance at Reelfoot.

I LOOK FORWARD TO MEETING YOU KEITH and anyone else who shows up for the Rendevouis or what ever ya want to call it........

Ok , the full moon in Sept is on the 9th , so the weekend before or after would probally be the best , so let me know if either one of these dates work for you. I can do a Fri , Sat , and Sunday or if I have enough notice I can do  a middle of the week thing, I'm flexible . I guess the first night should be stuff on the grill, and the second should be a fish fry with all the trimmings, and some okra for Tootie.  Setting around a campfire is a must if it's not too hot and the mosquitoes are not too bad, maybe we can stream some live video on skype , for those that wish they could be there with us, all are invited ,so dont be shy, come on if you can. this could be the start of big time Bluegill Big Bluegill  Rendezvous !   LOFR

Just nail down a date LOFR and I'll schedule a day or two. The shouldn't be a crowd that time of the year. There are pavilions in the day use areas that can be reserved. I'll check on this and campground info soon. Maybe this weekend. Got a tip from RJ that the redears are biting like crazy at the No. 1 watershed just outside of Samburg.
