Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Needed a new camp knife for the up coming season. The the blade is from a old cross-cut saw and the handle is spalted Ash.

Very nice work, Keith. Just what I'd expect from you.
You're an inspiration, my man
Thanks, nothing fancy, probably less than a dollar in materials. This is something my father taught me along with a love of fishing. Miss Him dearly!
A working knife need not BE fancy. Indeed, "fancy" serves little purpose on a tool designed for utility. To me, the art in this piece is in its potential to do work.
That makes it all the more admirable.
Will you be making a sheath for it?
Yes. I usually wait a little while till I'm sure I'm happy with the blade shape. Been known to redo the point if I'm not happy. Want the sheath to fit just right.

Great work Keith! A very good talent to have . You do your father proud!

that knife looks great keith!!  ever try making one out of a file??  they work great to!!

The first knives I made were out of files. This is the last one I finished with a file.

that file knife looks good to!!  glad to know there is a fellow forger here!!  ive done black smith work ;; so many times!!  it was a part of my line of work; as a boilermaker

I've only done stock removal so far. Haven't got a forge yet. Would love to build one. I make blades out of circular saw blades too. Most people throw these away. Making one from found material is the most fun to me. A lot of the handle material is scraps from cabinet shops.

That'll work!

Never thought of using circular saw blades. I've always figured they must be good for **something**
They are about the right hardness but still with a little flex.

VERY NICE SIMPLE DESIGN KEITH !!!!!!! SHOULD DO THE JOB .....
