Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I fish with the fly rod 90% of the time but the weather isn't friendly so thought I would try making some floats these are my first ones. I split lengths of cedar from a log I saved in my shed and whittled them to shape. Added a little color to make em more visible now I'm anxious to try them out.

and I prefer my quills to  be between 7 to 11 inches long , the thinner the better.  LOFR

Nice looking floats. They remind me of goose quill floats from the UK. How much weight does it take to make them stand up? I also have cedar trees and even a few bald cypress.

Nicely done......

LOFR, I had porcupine quills in mind but wasn't sure how long they are.  These floats are seven inches long guess I should have put something in for a size reference.  Cool that you have all that cedar!  I use it for lures and poppers and collect the shavings to put in the sweater drawer to ward off moths.

I have 200 acres of cedars, and the only thing I thought they were good for was hamster bedding, may have to try some , but I will have to make them taller and  skinnier like a porcupine quill.  LOFR

Right after I posted , I thought about Cedars stability .You're  right Allen .

Remember, cedar resists rotting in wet conditions.  It's actually a good choice for this kind of thing.  I've thought about making my own custom cedar pole floats, only HUGE, for long-distance catfishing at a tail-race.

thanks John, cedar is easy to carve but mostly it was on hand and free.
