My guess is Gill x P-Seed Hybrid (it doesn't have the red crescent on ear flap as a Pure P-Seed would). What does everyone else think????
I'm going with BG X PS hybrid.
Long Fish! Seems to have a lot of Pumkinseed color.Does make one imagine a BG and PS gettin' it on together!
Perhaps a Warmouth?
its not a warmouth. but what i seen at the bottom could it be a coppernose gill? look at ice's index finger and you will see what looks like to me to be a copper color on the breast. or like yall said a hyrbid of something.
That looks like a rare female hybrid. Something like 90+% of hybrid lepomids are female.
I meant "male" instead of "female". Sorry.
That sounds painful! LOL
Hey 2lbgill, That's one gorgeous Sunfish!!!!!! Thanks everybody for your help in ID'ing my Sunfish!!!!!
PS and BG crosses are not rare in northern waters. My guess is BG X PS. You can go to Wisc. Fish and look at all types of fish and crosses. Thanks Bruce for the heads up. I think you meant most crosses are male.
OOPS!! Ewest is right. I meant that most crosses are male. Thank you.
I'm goin with a BG/PS hybred...but like Fish Chris says about all th BG/GS hybreds in Clear Lake that seem to reproduce and cross naturally...alot of them look just a little bit different from one another. Slight color variations could throw us off. Seems they don't have the red or orange crescent on the gillflap but they have the wavey blue lines on the cheeks. Some seem to have more 'barring' patterns than other individual fish.
