Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Hello all!  I am new to the site and have really enjoyed looking at the discussions and all the pics of great gills.  I am in Indiana and was just wondering if there were any other Hoosiers on this site?  Most of the big gills I have come across here in Indiana don't really compare to many of the gills I see here.  I am assuming much of that has to do with geography in growing seasons, management, etc....  I do a decent job of getting gills here in Indiana and I can get some good ones too, but on the average for me a "good" gill is pushing 9 inches.  I know there are bigger ones there and Im focusing my efforts this coming year on trying to increase that.  Just wondering if anyone here is in Indiana.   Thanks for the great site!  Tight Lines and Screamin Drags to Ya!!!!!!!

I live in Fort Wayne and pretty much fish the northern part of the state.

Hi Bevaun, you're not the only Hoosier on the site! I live in south-central Indiana, about 20 miles west of Bloomington. And I've been know to catch a Bluegill now and then. A nine inch gill is a good fish, and a lot of fun to catch.  Welcome aboard!

Good to hear from you guys!  I spend most of my fishing time on Lake James, Pigeon River, Wynona Lake.  I think my next hog gill is going to come from Wynona.  I don't think there are a lot of them, but there are some big ones in there.

Demotte, In, fish boyous off the Kankakee

I'm in Anderson, I spend my time fishing local lakes and ponds.

I am from Muncie IN but now reside in Middle TN. I am a fly rodder and have caught some decent gills in different places but I have found that the gills in FL are generally larger. I have been fishing the small local creeks but intend to extend my fishing range this year in a fishing yak. As I recall the redears seem to average larger than the gills.

Mike, I know exactly where Oliver Winery is.....as a general rule I don't drink, but I do enjoy a glass of wine on occasion and have toured their facility there at Oliver several times.....in addition, they have a hot air balloon and once landed right on our property, which is probably 25-30 miles from the winery itself. Sent us a gift basket with wine and goodies for our "trouble".....shoot, it was no trouble at all, and pretty darn exciting to boot!

I have spent a few hours on the BSU campus myself. It is a much different campus today.

I understand the global warming thing. Florida is fishing heaven. Both fresh and salt water. I would sell out and move today if wife was agreeable. You got some big gills down there.

Bevaun, if you wants some big Redear you might try Goose Lake, North of Columbia City.  There are 12" plus in that there little lake.

Welcome to the site. I live in the northwest part of the state near Wanatah. Fish nearby ponds and also some of the lakes near Valparaiso and LaPorte.

Hello Bevaun,

I live in the sticks of Decatur Co., IN (south east IN). I originally grew up in Alabama catching decent fish on Pickwick Lake. I mostly fish 2 ponds we own. One is 5 acer pond (our family pond) and a brand new 1 acer pond I built at our house last January. Here is one of my baby gills in the new pond I caught last summer. Although I do not post much on this site, I do love all the information. Enjoy!

I am originally from Indiana and that is a nice area down there. My favorite area of Indiana though I much prefer TN. FL would be my next step up. hehehe
