Those are some really nice Warmouths, Jeffrey. I always consider them to be a great bonus when I catch one. I remember growing up in the early 60's, and catching them from a blow down filled backwater lake, off the Cedar River in IA., and many years later while fishing the Okeefanokee Swamp here in GA.  Fiesty, and good eating too!

These guys are relentless and particularly fun for surface angling with a popping bug....Almost always associated with cypress knees and other wood. I have a couple summer spawning holes located for these guys. I eat some of the smaller ones as these guys are a thicker fish and easy to clean.....I became fond of these fish growing up in the Louisiana marsh where we caught as many "Goggle-Eyed Perch" that we wanted.....I'm interested in getting a nice pair mounted on a cypress log one day but until then I prefer to select harvest Warmouth in North Carolina because they aren't as numerous as the other sunfish in North Carolina.....

My picture shows me holding a South Edisto River warmouth. I had never seen one and thought (for a fleeting moment) that I had some exotic new species.
