Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

First time I caught a Bluegill (thick 8 ") on a fathead minnow  11-15-10

I would like to know if others have fished them for Bull Gills or other species and how they present them . I used them with a slip float on a tree stuck on a 8' deep hump  coming out of 12-15' nearby .This fish was suspended or came up to 4-5 ' where my bait was . My buddy was using a jig tipped with dead fatheads or worms  and caught a few Gills and we  caught lots of Yellow Perch.

I've caught them on minnows before but it's been awhile.my girlfriend has a pond and the gills hit minnows pretty regularly.I just fish them on an aberdeen hook with a splitshot and a clip on or slip bobber.
First cast I caught that Gill on a fathead with the aberdeen light wire #10 or #8 (not sure)hook inserted down by the tail. After missing some fish i started putting the hook up by the dorsal Caught only Yellow Perch on Fatheads but I did catch a few more gills with crawler pieces.

I use to fish fatheads when I lived in IA, and MO. Here in Ga. all I ever see is shiner minnows. The fatheads were a lot hardier and easier to keep alive. I do like the added flash the shiner's have though. Does anyone here fish Rosy Red minnows? I tried them years ago, but couldn't see a big difference between them and the fatheads. If you have used them, how did they work for you?

Vince ,I never see rosy red minnows .Are they about the same size as fatheads? ( about 1,1/2"-2" I caught a Bullhead through the ice once on a Fathead rigged under a Tip up .I 've used Fatheads only a few times. They are hearty and I may try them through the ice again this year.

The ones I use to get were closer to 1 1/2". The day after I posted about Rosy Reds, a friend of mine told me of a pet store that sells them as feeder minnows. You get 8 for a buck. I went over there on Tuesday evening and told them I needed 5 bucks worth. When he brought them out the biggest ones were barely an inch long! They looked like a bunch of guppies. lol  I did fish them yesterday evening and caught 6 small crappies. I bet they would be deadly on gills though.
