Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Last night went to one of my favorite little ponds to play with some gills. Got there a bit later than I had wanted to but little time is better than nun. I went to the spot that I always have luck and started to toss the floats out. Picked up a few little ones and was having a good time. You know minding my own buisness. Time passed and it grew darker to the piont that I should begin to think about , one more cast. I took that first last cast along side of an overhanging limb. As soon as the float hit the water something came across the top of the water with a loud splashing noise and went for my float. This took me by surprise and shocked me into a joyful laugh. What was that? This happened on the second last and third last cast too. Remember it was low light and hard to see by now. On my fotrh last cast nothing happened. Well to my surprise a Big Bullfrog surfaced about three feet in front of me and just stared at me with big mean eyes. He wanted to pick a fight I think. I said some funny words that we may say to a frog that is looking at you and he just kept looking at me. I dont think he really cared what I had to say. He wanted to fight me . My dad always said that it takes a bigger man to walk away from a fight. He finally swam away. Have to love nature.

One of the best baits I ever used for catching a mess of frogs was a snagless scum frog lure. It worked really well on ponds that had a lot of surface moss that bullfrogs liked to sit on. They would jump all over one. I not sure if they are terratoral or what, but they wanted them bad.
