We call them the same here in GA.,James. I have heard them called river perch, and drum as well. They have "luck stones" behind their eyes. As kids we would dig them out, and carry 'em in our pockets for good luck. lol I think they must have been some sort of calcium deposit, as I remember all fresh water Sheep Head have them.

Some kind of drum or croaker. Those wavy markings have me stumped. Was it caught in Freshwater or salt? Beautiful fish though.
