Do you love big bluegill?
My wife got interested in composting vegetable peelings, fruit cores, etc and saw ads for home vermiculture units. She got one from the worm factory ( http://www.compostbins.com/thewormfactory.cfm?source=googleaw&k...) and it said that the population of redworms doubles every 90 days! Well, it's been 3 years now and we got worms by the bazillion and had to add more shelves. It's nice too, to have worms even in the winter and yes, they even work for ice fishing here in the frigid north! I'll see if I can take some pics and post them later as I'm new to this. Doc

A neighbor of my Dads use to raise red wigglers and sell them to the local bait shops. He taught my Dad how to raise them, and I too was surprised at how quick they reproduced. As Dad would say all they live for is to eat, poop, and reproduce. ( not his exact words, but this is a family website ) He raised them in a small styrofoam cooler, and always had plenty of worms to fish with. I am going to start a outside bed myself this year, as the worm prices here have really gone up lately.
The beds these guys make are layered. As the worms use up food and soil they keep moving up to the next shelf while leaving terrific fertilizer and there's a spout that you can drain off liquids for the garden or the wife's house plants full of plant nutrients. Yes! It's amazing how fast they reproduce and grow. I was surprised at how well thought out these units are and someone with a little ingenuity could make them at home.
