Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have been told that if fishing is a sport then we must be athletes, therefore we are susceptable to injuries related with our sport, I have a minor form of a pre existing condition, it is brought on by years of repetative use and exercising the joint. What is this condition you ask? It is called BLUEGILL ELBOW,  a hidious disease that affects the elbow joint causing pain and swelling. The only known cure is to exercise that elbow  to keep it flexable and not freezing up, and apply liberal amounts of alcohol to the joint from the inside should keep it working properly.  An audiable " Fish On "  also helps to keep your mind off your  injury. Finally a diet of fresh  fried bluegill should put this disease in remission.   This disease should not confused with Bluegill Fever !  which has a different set of symptoms , or spool thumb which shouldn't be confused with "Sharon Thumb" , So be careful out there this year and let me know if you find any more anglers injuries or diseases .       LOFR

Not funny. I am still having rehab from fishing my last competition. I pushed it way too far and upon returning to fish a derby, I carried too much gear around the pond during the derby to setup. I felt my elbow (back forearm) really tight and had flares of pain - but thought it was just fatigue from our week of practice and some techniques I usually don't fish around home.

So I thought- feel the burn, this is making muscle -

Well, it was finishing tearing tendon and I got to a point where that elbow could barely lift a can of soda. I have been doing exercise and rehab all winter and it is just now starting to feel together -but I might still get the MRI and see what the damage is because it is barely better.

I should have known when we unloaded the truck and on the first day moved 1.2 tons of bait (moved it the bait several times so I added the weight)... I should have known it would be a long week.

Add overworking - fishing more hours on the long pole than I ever have in a week and add Hungarian bait methods to a fall and cut wrists and the derby trip was the cherry on top.

Fishing is a sport- I'll have to do some time lapse photography this Summer and put it together in a video... hopefully my arm is good by then.

I hope your BLUEGILL ELBOW heals up soon,  we would hate to have to put you on the disabled list.    LOFR

Ba'al'ze'vuv, All kidding aside some fly fishers have rotator cuff problems.

You dont have to tell me , if it was't for the medicine I coundn't lift my arms over my head.    LOFR

LOF,R ,I don't need to lift them above my head, just to get the medicine above my CHIN!!!!!!  :-)

Greg, sometimes I have to reach and get my hooks out of the tree limbs or scratch my head.  LOFR

Lord of The Fly, Rods I think you may have hit the nail on the head. I'm feeling better already. Raising those Aluminum cans mouth high really helps when you have this painfull affiction. And Jen I know why you are sleeping out under the stars, yep to much pain killer. I've overdosed before too and have not made it back into the house. We do what we have to so we can just go about our daily duties until we can once again feel that tug on the end of that line and find peace and a oneness with nature..LITFR
