I should mention there's a bunch of videos to watch too.
This video was from a few years ago when I was with Vexilar but I've learned that Marcums do not suffer from other flasher's interference which is why I have switched, but watch the video.

Hi Cameron,I am a fishing guide and I've taught scads of guys to not only learn how to ice fish but become really deadly.
My fishing forum that has a ton of info on ice fishing is www.ckoutdoors.com

To make a post I could take up pages. I've already done this in my forum.
Here's the link to the ice thread in my forum.
http://ckoutdoors.com/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=23
There are 22 pages of threads to page through.
We talk about flashers, augers, portables and heaters.
We talk about tactics and how to locate the fish.
We talk about rods, reels, line you name it. Plus there are many very good ice fishers there that would also chime in on specific questions. So there's a bunch of minds to pick....some are from your area even.

I can get you started, but I would need to know your budget limitations.
I am on pro staff for Otter Outdoors, Marcum Flashers and Strike Master Augers.

Cameron, first let me say AWESOME!!! Ice fishing is loads of fun! It also is or can be alot of work. The fish are less active under the ice and are more "picky" if you will. Mobility is the key to success. Getting a guide for your first time out is a great idea. It would be an easy way to become familiar with the equipment, ice conditions and fish location. The biggest part of ice fishing is safety and fun! Please keeps us informed if you go! Good luck!
