Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

It was one of my regular Saturdays, which meant that I would have nothing to do so I decided to go fishing.

Once I had all my gear and stuff ready to put in the truck and head out I realized that the air was kind of cold then I thought that maybe this will push the fish deeper than it regularly would but I had no more thought of it, so I put the stuff in the truck and headed out.

Once I got to the lake I saw that there was a lot of fog on the water which to me suggested that it was popper time, even thought it was late in the season for popper fishing but it wouldn't heart to try it out. So I did.

I made a cast and once it hit the water I let the ripples fade away then I started to strip some line in when all of a sudden there was a splash around the popper which indicated to me that the fish missed the popper and tried to swirl on it.

I recast and when I did the popper hit the water the fish hit it again but when the fish hit it again I was trying to pull in some line but when I did I felt the weight of the fish and when I tried to left the rod up to put some tension on the rod the fish came off, after all of that there was no more action on the popper for a period of time.

I changed my popper to a MINI FLASH BUGGER which is a subsurface fly. I cast the fly out and I noticed that my fly casting skills have improved a lot, but that only makes fly fishing more interesting. Meanwhile, once the fly hit the water I let it sink for about two seconds and I started to strip some line in I felt some taps or slight tugs on the fly so I set the hook and had a fish on.

Once I got the fish in it was a fairly small Bluegill which to me set off a good bite but slow pace of fish action for the day. But as the day went on there was less and less action, so I called it a day and headed to the house, empty handed once more.

Remember, keep fishing. keep fishing hard.~ Tobias
